Lab Lockdown: a Praxis General Science (5436) study game

You're locked in a science building. The only way out is to use the science. Lab Lockdown is a 3D escape room you play in your browser, built to help you review the content of the Praxis General Science: Content Knowledge (5436) test by putting it to work.

Features

  • Six escape rooms: chemistry lab, greenhouse, observatory, seismology station, physics workshop and field station.
  • In-world locks: 3D keypads, letter-wheel locks and dial safes. No quiz pop-ups.
  • Hidden clues: notes scattered around each room, including invisible ink that only shows under the UV flashlight and fine print that needs the magnifier.
  • Progressive hints that end in a worked explanation, plus a "why this works" note after every solve.
  • A built-in notebook with formulas, a glossary and review notes, and a calculator.
  • Star ratings and collectible element cards to track your progress.

What the 5436 test covers, and how the rooms map to it

The official ETS Praxis General Science: Content Knowledge (5436) Study Companion organizes the test into four content categories: Nature and Impact of Science and Engineering, Physical Science, Life Science, and Earth and Space Science. See the Study Companion on ets.org for the full, current specifications. Each room in Lab Lockdown mixes topics from these categories:

RoomMain categoriesTopics you'll use
The Chemistry Lab (free demo)Physical Science, Nature of ScienceAcids and stoichiometry, dilution, atomic structure, Ohm's law circuits, gas laws, and lab safety.
The GreenhouseLife ScienceCell organelles, meiosis, Mendelian genetics, Hardy–Weinberg, photosynthesis, photon energy, osmosis.
The ObservatoryEarth & Space ScienceThe solar system, orbits and Kepler's laws, stars, light and gravity.
The Seismology StationEarth & Space ScienceEarthquakes and epicenters, minerals, radiometric dating, plate tectonics.
The Physics WorkshopPhysical ScienceCircuits and power, energy, waves, heat.

How to play

  1. Click Play, choose a room, and click to look around. Move with WASD and the mouse.
  2. Press E to inspect objects and read the notes you find. Clues go into your notebook (N).
  3. Pick up tools and switch between them with 1–5. The UV flashlight reveals hidden writing.
  4. Work out the answer, then enter it on the lock itself. Press buttons, turn wheels and pull levers.
  5. Stuck? Ask for a hint from the close-up view. Fewer hints earn more stars.
